Emotion Regulation/Behavioural Issues
Does your child or teen struggle to navigate challenges, have difficulty in their relationships with peers, have strong emotional outbursts, or deal with extreme emotional swings? While many times this can be attributed to a diagnosis of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) or Depression, this is not always the case. Sensory sensitivity, unprocessed grief, trauma, anxiety, or even a lack of the necessary coping skills can also lead to these types of struggles. Whether or not your child comes in with a diagnosis, our goal is to get to know your child for who they are and to help them develop the skills they need to be successful. Who gets to define what successful means? You and your child!
How we can help
At Conscious, we are here to help you and your child better understand the reason behind these beahviours so we can all feel equipped not only to resolve them, but prevent future issues. We want your child to feel like a superhero who has the power to overcome their difficulties through the use of special skills, tools, and resources. As the parent or caregiver, we also want you to feel equipped to be able to attend to the unique needs of your child, and to better understand how your child functions best.
So, how do we do this? We believe parents have an important role to play in the success of their child in overcoming some of these social-emotional hurdles. Therefore, the best success comes from working with both children and their parents so that while we are helping to equip you with the tools you need, we are also nurturing the relationship you have. While we want children and youth to learn how to advocate for themselves, we believe one of the best advocates a child can have is their caregiver.
